The attributes valued within Clueless are wealth, appearance and social class. Heckerling takes the carriage scene from Emma and translates it into the modern context as the valley party scene. When Elton rejects Tai, he says to Cher; “FRIENDS ONLY” This shows that the value of social status is important; even if it is just dating. However, Cher says “COMMENT TO BE ADDED” which expresses to the audience that Cher does not view it as the same way as Elton does. Theatrical techniques are also employed to re-enforce the opposing views of the two characters. The camera shoots of the pair inside the car rarely have the two within the same frame; instead, flicking from one to the other.
